Indian Butter Shrimp


Time to add a little flavor to your weekend dinner routine, Indian Butter Shrimp style. The savory, creamy sauce is richly spiced, the shrimp is tasty and juicy. With authentic, Indian flavor- this is sure to be a hit with all age groups. Inspired by the classic Indian butter chicken, you’ll find a depth of flavor and the more bites you take, the more you’ll want.


Pro tip: use naan to wipe up every last drop of the curry- trust me, you‘ll want to lick the bowl!

Preparation time: 30 minutes

Cooking time: 20 minutes

Total time: 50 minutes

Ingredients:

  1. 2 tbsp butter

  2. 1 tsp smoked paprika

  3. 1/4 cup full fat yogurt

  4. 1 lb large shrimp (peeled and deveined)

  5. 1 cup of chopped onion

  6. 3 minced garlic cloves

  7. 3 tbsp ginger grated

  8. 1 tsp of Garam masala

  9. 1/2 tsp dhaniya (coriander) powder

  10. 1 tsp cumin powder

  11. 1/4 tsp red chili flakes

  12. 3/4 cup water

  13. 4 tbsp tomato paste

  14. 1/2 tsp salt

  15. 1 tsp sugar

  16. 1/2 cup heavy cream

  17. 1 yellow Bell pepper chopped


Instructions:

  1. In a medium bowl, add yogurt and spices to create marinade. Add shrimp, cover and put in fridge while making sauce. (At least 1 hour).

  2. Melt Butter in medium skillet on low flame, and add chopped onions until caramelized. Add garlic and ginger-cook until fragrant. Add bell peppers and cook until slightly soft.

  3. Add water and tomato paste, and bring to a boil. Then remove from heat.

  4. Whisk in heavy cream; careful not to allow to clump. Return to stove, add shrimp, and entire marinade.

  5. Season with salt and pepper, garnish with cilantro, and serve hot.

  6. Serve with naan or steaming hot rice for best flavor.
