Tater Tot Chaat

There is just something about summer that just screams Chaat! And now with the weather being warm and all the summer fun kicking off- more backyard parties and get togethers are becoming popular. While face masks and social distancing is more important now than ever, there’s no harm in enjoying some chaat with the family.

Easy to make, just simply bake! That’s the motto of this dish. You throw the tater tots on a sheet tray, bake, and simply top with your favorite chaat toppings. This flavor journey begins with the crunch of the crispy tater tots, followed by the cooling yogurt, tamarind and date chutney, the Spiced mint chutney, and finished off with the refreshing crunch of the purple onions. I would’ve thrown some pomegranate seeds on here too, but we didn’t have them at home. You have to try this out, and trust me you won’t be disappointed. Chaat it out!

  • You can make this super simple and buy the chutneys from the Indian grocery store, otherwise recipes for the chutneys will be coming soon!

Serving Size: 5 to 6 people

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook time: 20 minutes

Total time: 35 minutes

Ingredients for overall Chaat:

  1. Frozen Tater Tots (I used the Trader Joe’s brand)

  2. 1 cup of mint chutney

  3. 1 cup of Tamarind chutney

  4. 1 cup of yogurt (I added water to it to make it easier to drizzle)

  5. Sev or bhujia

  6. 1 purple onion finely diced

  7. 1 handful cilantro finely chopped

  8. Pomegranate seeds (optional)

  9. 2 tsp chaat masala (optional)

  10. 2 tsp lemon juice (optional)

Instructions for Chaat:

  1. Line tater tots on a baking sheet, and bake per instructions; around 20-25 minutes

  2. Immediately take out of the oven, and while hot, drizzle with chutneys (will allow to soak in chutneys better)

  3. Sprinkle onion, Chaat masala, and lemon juice

  4. Add yogurt, Sev, pomegranate seeds, and cilantro

  5. Serve immediately

Enjoy!
